LOANEE TOMORI KEEN TO EMULATE SKIPPER

- By Andrew Lawton

LOANEE Fikayo Tomori wants to learn as much as possible from Hull captain Michael Dawson during the rest of his time at the club.

The 19-year-old defender is due to spend the entire season on loan at the Championship side as he looks to prove himself to his bosses back at parent club Chelsea.

Dawson knows exactly what it takes to reach the top level. He has four England caps and has been a guiding light to his centreback partner at the KCOM Stadium.

“Being a defender, I have to get better at defending and being a physical presence, and it’s valuable to learn from a player like Dawson, who has been at the top of the game,” said Tomori.

“I have confidence in myself. I know what attributes I bring to the team.

“I’m good in one-on-one situations. I know what I’m good at.

“Football is difficult, but you have to try to stay positive and work hard.

“You have to come into training with a smile on your face and try to improve.”

Dawson and Tomori still have plenty of work to do at the back for Hull, who conceded 39 goals in the first 21 games of the Championship season.

And Tomori, who is a member of the England Under-21 squad, admitted he has not heard from his parent club and is anticipating a full season on Humberside.

“I haven’t heard anything about going back to Chelsea in January,” he admitted. “It’s a seasonlong loan and that’s how long I’m here for.

“I’m growing up a lot. You have to figure things out yourself on the pitch and focus on making yourself better.

“It’s a lot colder up north, but having Ola Aina and Michael Hector here is helping me out.”
