‘SPECIAL GROUP’ DESERVE CREDIT, SAYS JED

- By Dan Barnes

BULLISH Jed Wallace believes Millwall deserve more recognition for what they pulled off in 2017.

Neil Harris’ side have found their feet back in the Championship after securing promotion via the League One play-offs last season. It was a campaign in which they also reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Winger Wallace, who enjoyed his second spell on loan at Millwall last season before signing permanently from Wolves in the summer, says the Lions also thrive on mixing it with the second tier’s big boys.

“We haven’t got enough credit for what we’ve achieved in the last few seasons, particularly in terms of the promotion and the FA Cup run last season,” said Wallace.

“This is a very special group. There are no egos in the dressing room, which is annoying in terms of the Christmas party because the players only want to spend £20 for a night out in London!

“We look forward to playing teams with big budgets because this is the level we want to play at.

“And it shows how far we’ve come as a team when, last year, we were struggling to beat teams in League One, like Walsall and Chesterfield, at home.

“This season, we’ve turned over teams with Premier League quality in their squads, so it’s a huge source of pride for the team.”

The 23-year-old also has no qualms admitting Millwall do their best work without the ball.

The former Portsmouth man added: “We’re geared not to have the ball, which suits us when the top sides come to the Den.

“You see teams who have spent a lot of money and there’s an emphasis on keeping the ball, but it plays to our strengths because we can keep our shape and then hit them on the counter.”
