FOR GLOVERS DROP FEARS

-

Exeter remain in third place in League Two but defeat sees them lose ground on both Luton and Notts County above them in the table.

After seeing James gift Yeovil their opening goal, Grecians boss Paul Tisdale admitted his team were punished for their mistakes.

He said: “It was a disappointing result because, broadly speaking, we played pretty well but 90 per cent isn’t good enough and there were certain issues which cost us.

“I was largely happy with the way the boys committed themselves to the game and did the things I asked them to but we conceded poor goals.

“From our point of view, all three that we conceded were pretty average, well-taken by them, but conceding three just isn’t good enough from us.

“We looked solid until their first goal but we made mistakes and were punished with them scoring goals and we can’t afford to do that.”

Exeter came close to an opener themselves on 17 minutes when Liam McAlinden’s header from a James cross was brilliantly saved by Yeovil keeper Artur Krysiak – the long-time Grecians stopper.

Krysiak also kept out a fierce drive from Craig Woodman while at the other end, Otis Khan scuffed his shot when well-placed.

Yeovil took the lead on 41 minutes when a stray pass from James set up Gray to sidefoot past Christy Pym from just inside the area.

Exeter nearly hit back before the break when Tom James cleared off the line from Jake Taylor but, instead, they then fell further behind early in the second half.

Khan put Zoko clear on the right and the striker somehow angled a shot past Pym and into the net via the far post to make it 2-0.

Khan and Surridge then both came close to making it 3-0 as they were denied by excellent saves from Pym.

Striker Stockley pulled a goal back following a goalmouth scram- ble after Krysiak saved Taylor’s shot.

However, any nerves from home supporters were calmed when Pym tripped Zoko to concede a penalty, which was converted by Surridge to seal Yeovil’s victory and ease the pressure on boss Darren Way.
