EXILES IN TERRACE CLOSURE AS THE FA STEP IN

- By Paul Eddison

NEWPORT County have closed part of their Rodney Parade ground due to objects being thrown at the technical areas during a recent 3-3 draw with Carlisle United.

An FA investigation into the incident is under way, and follows a similar issue last season when Newport escaped punishment for fan disturbance during a game with Blackpool.

The club has decided to close part of the Hazell Terrace to avoid a repeat, starting with yesterday’s home game with Lincoln.

A statement read: “Regrettably, (we) will be closing part of the Hazell Terrace for the next two EFL League Two home matches against Lincoln City and Exeter City.

“The decision to close the area directly behind the dugouts has been taken following an incident at the last home match against Carlisle United which saw objects thrown into the technical areas.

“The FA are investigating the incident which is of a similar nature to the incident at the Blackpool match last season.

“Newport County AFC is a family-friendly club and will not tolerate such behaviour within Rodney Parade or at any fixture involving the club.

“If any supporter(s) have any information in relation to the matter, they are asked to e-mail us at supporterservices@newportcounty.co.uk or by phoning 01633 481896 and asking to speak to CEO Alex Tunbridge.”

Newport imposed supporter bans last season for the Blackpool incident, while other fans were banned following the use of smoke bombs in their final game of the season against Notts County.

Meanwhile, Exiles boss Michael Flynn has set his sights on four new signings in January.

He said: “I’ve got loads of irons in the fire.

“I’m hoping we’ll have up to four coming in but we’ll see.”
