BEES’ VISIT GIVES EVERYONE A BUZZ!

- By Tom Blackett

A HOST of warm-hearted EFL clubs arranged hospital visits in the lead up to Christmas – and Championship side Brentford certainly played their part.

Eight Bees first-teamers spread a little festive cheer in the children’s ward at the West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth on Monday.

The visit has become a tradition, with gifts collected by Brentford FC handed over to children who have to spend Christmas in hospital.

Autographs

Brentford captain John Egan and World Cup-bound Denmark international Andreas Bjelland were joined by Yoann Barbet, Sergi Canós, Luke Daniels, Lewis Macleod, Josh McEachran and Chris Mepham in visiting the hospital.

And on Thursday Brentford’s B team also paid a visit, donating more gifts, signing autographs and posing for pictures.

The donated gifts came from supporters, staff and players and, as usual, there was a large collection of toys handed over.

Skipper Egan said: “It is always nice to give something back. There are a lot of kids in here who aren’t well and it is good for us to come and put a smile on their faces, even if it is just for five or ten minutes.

“I think the lads quite enjoyed it and it is always nice to give something back.” Rasvana Akram, manager of the hospital’s children’s unit, who was there to greet the players, said: “We are so grateful to Brentford, and especially the players, for coming to visit us and spreading some festive cheer to our patients and staff.

Excited

“Leading up to their visit staff in the department have been really excited and, when the players arrived, they were so good with the children and their families, spending time chatting with them and giving presents out. It really brightened up the day for everyone.”
