INTEREST ‘HIGH’ AS BANTAMS EYE NEW MANAGER

- By Charlie Talbot-Smith

SIMON Grayson is a leading contender, but Bradford chairman Edin Rahic insists the Bantams have many potential suitors.

Grayson, sacked by Sunderland this season, has been linked with both the Barnsley and Bradford manager roles that became available in the past week.

Grayson may prefer to stay in the Championship at Oakwell, but the Bantams are still well-placed for a promotion push from League One following the sacking of Stuart McCall.

Grayson has won promotion from League One four times in the last ten years, most recently with Preston back in 2015, and had a brief spell on loan at Valley Parade back in 2002.

Rahic said: “We have been inundated with applicants in the past 24 hours and have spoken to a number of high-calibre individuals.

“This is not a process we can rush, but at the same time we appreciate the fans wanting to know that progress is being made.

“In the meantime, the existing backroom staff will be taking care of firstteam affairs. This structure will remain in place until further notice.”

Greg Abbott has been in temporary charge since club legend McCall departed last week.

He said: “It’s not been an easy week. Monday was a really tough day for everybody.

“On a personal note, you see a very good friend and work colleague lose his job and see the disappointment spread around the football club, and in the city itself.

“We’re just getting rid of that sombreness at the training ground. We couldn’t walk in singing and dancing, but it’s our job to lift the group.

“There’s a respect margin to everybody here and I, more than anybody, know that Stuart is probably going to be the most popular person ever to put on a Bradford City shirt.”
