MINDSET VITAL TO MARC’S BURST OF FORM

- By James Ayles

COVENTRY hitman Marc McNulty says he always believed he would hit a purple patch this season.

Before the weekend, the in-form Scottish striker, 25, had scored ten goals in 11 games and believes that there is plenty more to come.

Former Livingston and Sheffield United man McNulty says a positive mindset and learning not to be his own worst enemy has been one of the key factors behind his productive form in front of the net.

“I think it’s important to everyone. I think some people can deal with playing when they’re not so confident, which is probably the case for me at the start of the season,” said the striker, who was named the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month for January.

“I wasn’t scoring so much, but I was still confident it was going to change at some point and, luckily, it did change for me.

“A lot of managers have said to me that sometimes I’m my own worst enemy and maybe I over-analyse some stuff.

“But that’s just how I am – I always want to do better.”

Meanwhile, Andy Whing has returned to Coventry after more than ten years to coach the club’s Under-18s.

He will join up with Under-18s boss Andy Crabtree after leaving his post as Under-23s coach at Kidderminster.

Whing secured his place in Sky Blues folklore when he scored the last-ever goal at Highfield Road in a 6-2 win over Derby at the end of the 2003-04 season.

Academy manager Rich Stevens said: “With Andy coming back, one he knows the system and two he knows the club.

“I think he will bring a lot with his experience of playing at the top level and his experience of being at the club.

“He wants to learn and develop as a coach, so it kind of suits both parties.”
