TIME TO SHOCK A FEW PEOPLE – NIGEL

- By Andrew Lawton

A CHALLENGING run of fixtures in March isn’t daunting Burton boss Nigel Clough.

Albion’s game at Sheffield United was postponed on Friday due to safety concerns over the Bramall Lane stands and access to them.

Clough’s men must now turn their attentions to clashes with top-half sides Brentford and Bristol City over the coming weeks.

That’s before they travel to current top two, Wolves and Cardiff, but Clough knows his team must spring a few surprises on the promotion-chasers if they’re to stay up.

“I hope some think we are already down,” he said.

“The level of performance and the consistency in the last five games has been very good, but people assume we are in a position where we are doomed.

“It’s up to us to surprise a few, like we did a year ago, and get some results that people don’t expect.

“We have been a small club in every league we have been in, going back to our Conference days, and up through the leagues the same, and we have had to surprise people.

“We will have to excel in that area in the next couple of months if we are going to survive.”

Burton were beaten by Aston Villa at the start of February before back-toback goalless draws with Ipswich and Forest, before earning a win over Barnsley.

Clough, though, saw his side lose to Millwall last weekend. It means they haven’t won at home since a 2-1 success against Fulham back in September – a run of 13 games.

“Against Millwall, it was a good performance, but we missed chances and they score with a flukey goal,” he added.

“Millwall and Nottingham Forest the week before are the best chances we have had to end that bad run at home.

“It’s getting demoralising at times.”
