HATTERS DESERVE PLAYER AWARDS – JONES

- By Will Thompson

LUTON manager Nathan Jones reckons he should have had more than five of his players in the PFA League Two team of the season.

The Hatters had five players selected in midweek, with Czech goalkeeper Marek Stech, defenders Alan Sheehan and Dan Potts, midfielder Luke Berry and striker Danny Hylton all included.

Despite dominating the vote, Jones believes a few more Luton players could have made both the PFA team of the season, as well as the official EFL League Two team of the year.

“We like to think we probably could have had one or two more,” said Jones.

“People like James Collins hasn’t got in, but you think Olly Lee has done fantastically well.

“Jack Stacey’s got in one, not the other. Marek Stech’s got in one, not the other, and these have been big, big players.

“So we’re delighted to have five. I think it’s only Manchester City who have had the number we’ve had, so we’re pleased with that.

“It’s good to see your players recognised and I’m slightly biased, but I think they’re deserved.

“I think they have been a credit to themselves in terms of how they’ve gone about their work.

“There are three from Accrington, as well, and justifiably so.”

Before this weekend, Luton stood just four points off league leaders Accrington, but Jones has faith that his side can still hunt them down.

“It’s a tight league in so many ways,” said the Hatters boss.

“Let’s do one thing first, then we can see where we are.

“Right now, we would settle for guaranteed promotion, but if we do that – and the earlier we do it – you set your sights on winning as many games as you possibly can and then putting pressure on Accrington.”
