Dack attack ignites the comeback

- By Chris Hughes

LEAGUE One player of the year Bradley Dack saluted Blackburn’s character as his brace saw Rovers overcome early struggles against Peterborough and move one step closer to promotion.

David Raya brilliantly saved George Cooper’s pinpoint free-kick but Charlie Mulgrew turned the resulting corner into his own goal on the stroke of half-time to hand Posh a deserved lead at Ewood Park.

But, following a few stern words at the break, Dack equalised with a powerful header before Danny Graham completed the turnaround with a header of his own on 83 minutes.

Dack then slotted home his 18th goal of the season in injury time after Graham’s throughball to round off the win.

“We knew it would be tough but we didn’t play well in the first half,” Dack said. “We had to buck our ideas up and show character to come back from being a goal down.

“But what the team has in abundance is character and resilience and we did well to win the game 3-1.

“We always knew we would get chances and it was up to us to finish it off.

“It was nice to score early in the second half, which meant we didn’t really have to chase the game.”

The victory on Thursday night saw Blackburn gain a vital three points in their push towards automatic promotion to the Championship going into their final three games.

Meanwhile, Posh manager Steve Evans was left to rue a couple of decisions he felt went against his side as their play-off hopes faltered with a third successive league defeat. “I thought we were fantastic in the first half, we probably gave them more problems than they’ve had in any game since they’ve been on a great run,” he said.

“There are a couple of things we’re not happy about. Just before halftime it looks a blatant handball by Charlie Mulgrew, it looks a penalty all day long.

“And then at a key stage in the game Corry Evans has an absolutely horrendous tackle. It’s an over the ball red card, but the referee doesn’t see it that way and calls it differently.”
