A PROMOTION STANLEY PARTY

Coleman hits out at side’s doubters

- By Matt Wright

IF THERE was any question over whether Accrington could maintain their wonderful form after winning promotion in midweek, they answered it emphatically at Wycombe.

The would-be champions were a class apart at Adams Park against a team who can still follow them into League One but barely gave them a kick in any department.

Luton’s draw at Carlisle was the only thing preventing it from being an absolutely perfect day for Stanley, as it delayed their coronation, but a point at Newport on Tuesday will seal the title.

This was a first defeat in nine for what was a Wycombe side depleted by illness and injury, but they will have to shrug this off quickly if their automatic promotion hopes aren’t to disappear.

Accrington manager John Coleman said: “I can’t praise our lads enough, they’ve been absolutely magnificent all season. People have questioned our motivation saying we’ve been partying all week, when we haven’t.

“The harsh reality is we celebrated an historic promotion on Tuesday and a couple of lads went out for a drink on Wednesday.

“They went to bed at the appropriate time and then they trained hard on Thursday and on Friday and they prepared right for the game.

“So that was an answer to the people who were doubting us.
