SMITH’S HAPPY TO LAUGH OFF WBA TALK
BRENTFORD boss Dean Smith has played down speculation linking him with West Brom after he was made the new favourite to fill their managerial vacancy.
With the Baggies on the brink of relegation from the Premier League, there has been talk they could attempt to bring former Walsall boss Smith back to his native West Midlands.
The 47-year-old has helped the Bees punch above their weight this season on a limited budget, with the side still in with a chance of making the playoffs going into the weekend.
But Smith responded to speculation by jokingly asking why he hasn’t been linked with another vacancy that is about to be opened in the top flight.
He said: “I’m a little bit disappointed I haven’t been linked with the Arsenal job!
“There’s always speculation and somebody’s probably put 4p on me to get the job and the odds have come down. That is how things go in football.
“I’m really enjoying myself here. We have a really good club.
“We all work very well together and, as people can see, it’s come to fruition on the pitch at the moment.”
