Lee has all Angols covered in comeback

- By Chris Spittles

MANSFIELD kept their play-off hopes alive with a dramatic victory as they came from behind twice to beat struggling Yeovil.

The Stags are three points behind both Lincoln and Coventry with one game left to play, taking the battle for a top-seven finish in League Two to the final day of the season.

WIth Bevis Mugabi and then Francois Zoko giving the Glovers the lead, their play-off dream looked set to fizzle out at Huish Park.

It was the second-half entrance of sub Lee Angol that turned the game as he levelled things at 1-1, won a penalty for Kane Hemmings to make it 2-2, and then struck a brilliant free-kick to seal a comeback triumph.

Mansfield boss David Flitcroft said: “I think the turning point was certainly Lee coming on. He started off the second half really well.

“And the goal to win the game was absolutely outstanding. That’s what we need from Lee Angol week in, week out – he’s got to become consistent.

“It was a must-win game to put pressure on the other teams that we’re chasing down.

“Yeovil, you could argue, weren’t really playing for anything out there but they fought hard and they fought until the last minute.”

Meanwhile, Yeovil manager Darren Way pointed the finger at referee Charles Breakspear, who awarded two penalties but turned down a late appeal from home striker Francois Zoko.

Way said: “I think the game will be remembered for the referee because I think he lost control.

“We had a stonewall penalty turned down when Francois Zoko was fouled and it was a shame because we wanted to win our last home game of the season. “Refereeing is at its lowest point right now and the decision not to award this penalty was laughable – everyone around the ground was laughing when it wasn’t given.”

Mugabi put the home side ahead in the first half, heading in an Otis Khan corner at the near post.

Angol equalised just four minutes after coming on as a halftime sub, bundling the ball in from close range after Danny Rose’s shot was saved but Zoko converted a penalty after Omar Sowunmi was pushed inside the area.

But Mansfield levelled with a spot-kick of their own 12 minutes later, Hemmings netting after Angol’s powerful shot was handled by Lewis Wing.

After Angol’s superb winner, Yeovil’s Sowunmi was sent off for a second booking.
