LOOVENS TO FLY AWAY FROM OWLS
SHEFFIELD Wednesday club captain Glenn Loovens will depart the Owls at the end of the season after falling down the pecking order.
Loovens, 34, has not appeared for two months and he is to be released along with winger Ross Wallace and goalkeeper Jake Kean, while Kosovo striker Atdhe Nuhiu has been offered a new contract.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay said: “Glenn’s character and mentality is fantastic. It has not been easy in the last few months (for him).
“He has not played many games. Most of the time he was not playing but his character on the training field and in the camp was always very positive.
“He motivated his colleagues in this last period so I have a lot of respect for him as a person and as a footballer.
“He had a fantastic career before he came to Sheffield. He played for some great clubs.”
Meanwhile, 32-year-old Czech defender Daniel Pudil will remain at Hillsborough after signing a new one-year deal.
