CLUCAS NEARING POTTERS DEBUT...

GARY Rowett has revealed that summer signing Sam Clucas is closing in on his Stoke City debut.

The versatile midfielder, 28, joined the Potters from Swansea City during the summer, but has been forced to wait to make his bow for the club due to a long-standing knee injury.

However, Clucas has stepped up his rehabilita­tion over the past few days, so much so that he came through a full training session with the rest of the group on Thursday.

Rowett said: “Sam has trained with the group today and came through it with flying colours.

“It has been a really frustratin­g time for Sam because it is difficult moving to a new club and then being on the sidelines for such a long time.

“We all knew the situation when we took him in the summer, but of course we hoped that he would be fit and available before now.

“He is a really good player and somebody who will enhance us in my opinion, he has the ability to glide across the field, he has a very good left foot and he has good physicalit­y about him too.”

He added: “The thing with Sam is we don’t want to compromise him by bringing him back and then causing any unnecessar­y issues. He is desperate to get back out there and we are eager to
