HOLDERS LINCOLN SET FOR STANLEY TUSSLE

-

CHECKATRADE Trophy holders Lincoln City have been handed a testing tie at Accrington Stanley in the second round. The Imps squeezed into the knockout stages and knew they would have an away tie, because they finished as a group stage runner-up. The sides were both in League Two last season, with Accrington winning the title and Lincoln making the play-offs. John Coleman’s Stanley have made an excellent start to life in the third tier this term and will fancy their chances of knocking out the Imps at the Wham Stadium. Last year’s beaten finalists Shrewsbury have a home tie against Walsall to look forward to. Sunderland have been drawn at home to Notts County, Macclesfield visit Newcastle U21s and Barnsley host Manchester City U21s. In the Southern section, League One pacesetters Portsmouth will entertain Arsenal U21s. Steve Evans’ Peterborough travel to Exeter, AFC Wimbledon make the short trip to Chelsea U21s and Oxford entertain Tottenham U21s. Round two winners earn £20,000 in prize money and the ties are to be played in the week beginning December 3.
