AARONS TO GIVE MAXIMUM EFFORT...
MAX Aarons insists he won’t rest on his laurels after a whirlwind breakthrough season with Championship pacesetters Norwich.
Aarons, 18, went from signing his first professional deal in June to becoming the Canaries’ first-choice right-back in just three months, impressing on his league debut against bitter rivals Ipswich in September.
A string of inspired performances have seen him become a fully-fledged first-teamer and England youth international but the teenager knows he can’t take his spot for granted.
“Sometimes, I have to sit back and think it’s crazy what I’m doing at the minute,” said Aarons.
“But I’m not sitting tight. My aim is just to keep it going and play as well as I can each week. I just want to keep improving.
“The team is playing really well and is in really good form. I’m really happy.”
Aarons, cousin of Newcastle winger Rolando, recently arrived back from international duty with the England Under-19s after helping the Young Lions finish second in their Euro 2019 qualifying group.
The Hammersmith-born defender featured in the 3-1 victory over Iceland, meaning he earned bragging rights over fellow Canaries Atli Barkarson and Isak Thorvaldsson.
“I told them that we were going to beat them before and after the win I gave them a bit more stick,” he joked.
“England is really exciting to be a part of. The style we play is very much like the England senior team. When we all join up, we watch videos of them and look at how they play.
“It’s crazy to think that some of the senior guys were playing for the Under-19s, like me, a few years ago. It’s a huge inspiration to see them walking around St George’s Park when I’m there.”
