DEBUT DISMAY FOR SOL & CO

New managers suffer in their opening matches

-

SOL Campbell tried to take the positives after his Football League managerial bow ended in defeat for his Macclefield side against Colchester United.

A Mikael Mandron goal proved the difference against the high-flying U’s, but former England international Campell said: “The lads played well – they worked hard.

“Colchester are riding high in the league and for us, we just needed a little bit of luck in front of goal.

“The effort was there and the lads really worked their socks off.”

It wasn’t only Campbell who suffered opening day League blues. Sam Ricketts saw his Shrewsbury side lose 2-1 at Burton Albion, while Neal Ardley’s Notts County went down 2-0 in their derby at Mansfield.

There were better fortunes for AFC Wimbledon manager Wally Downes as his side drew 1-1 against Rochdale.
