DOWNING IS EAGER TO PLEASE

CHAMPIONSHIP PAUL Downing is doing all he can to impress Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray.

The former MK Dons defender has struggled for game time this season, but is continuing to work hard in a bid to break into Rovers’ first team.

Downing, 27, who returned to the team last weekend against Sheffield Wednesday, said: “Every day you need to show the manager what you can do. When you do start it’s important to help the team play well, win and pick points up.

“It’s important to treat each game as a normal game, keep things simple and defend well.”
