MY PICK? I’D HAVE TO TAKE SNIFFER DWIGHT

-

EVERY manager will tell you that a topclass striker is worth his weight in gold. They are the guys who win you games.

A good striker has a knack for finding the net in any situation and creating something out of nothing. If an opponent comes and parks the bus, he is the one who sniffs out a yard of space.

So if I could have my pick of any Championship player this season it would probably be Dwight Gayle at West Brom.

He’s been there and done it with Newcastle, proved it again with all the goals he’s scored this year. Ahead of the weekend, his ten strikes had come at a rate of one every 113 minutes – only Nottingham Forest’s Lewis Grabban (14 goals) with 112 can better that.

He’s someone you just know will do the business and if West Brom do return to the Premier League then he will be a big reason.

Equally, however, I’d love to have some of the young Premier League kids in my side. Mason Mount and Harry Wilson at Derby. Harvey Barnes at West Brom.

It will be very interesting to see if their parent clubs call them back. If they do, it will be a hugely damaging blow.

I’d be surprised if that happened though. Unless they are going into the first team, it would be very detrimental to their development. And whilst you could make a case for Barnes playing at Leicester, there’s no way Mount and Wilson would play for Chelsea or Liverpool.
