IT’S TIME FOR HOME COMFORT – IRVINE

- By Max Chesterton

HULL City must improve their home record if they are to avoid the drop, according to midfielder Jackson Irvine.

Pre-weekend, the Tigers had picked up just nine points at home all season and were only one of five Championship clubs to have secured more points on their travels than on home turf.

But with Nigel Adkins’ men picking up positive victories over Bolton and QPR on recent road trips, Irvine has rallied his troops to make the most of their home comforts.

“We know we need to improve on home soil,” said the 25-year-old Australia international.

“The game against Norwich was an outstanding team performance.

“We took a point from that game, which was a very good point against the league leaders, especially with the form they went into the game in.

“If you can turn your home ground into a fortress at any level of the game and pick up a lot of wins, it can make a massive difference.

“You probably don’t find many teams that go away from home and play with as much confidence as we are right now, but we know we have to match that at the KCOM as well. If we can do that, it will only help push us forward.

“Everyone in the camp is very positive and we all believe that we can continue to climb the table.”

The Tigers campaign has been buoyed by the efforts of star striker Fraizer Campbell, 31, after the forward struck four goals in November to win the club’s player of the month trophy.

Campbell said: “I’m happy to be in the side, happy to be playing well and happy to have been amongst the goals.

“I just want to keep playing football, be involved in as many games as possible and contribute to the team winning matches.”
