HUTTON STUNNER NETS HIM AWARD

- By Tom Blackett

ASTON Villa defender Alan Hutton’s stunning solo goal against Birmingham was a ‘special moment’ – and now it’s bagged him a trophy.

The 34-year-old set off on a lung-bursting run forward, kept going and then produced a pinpoint left-foot finish.

It was an important goal, too – it made it 4-2 to Villa and clinched the derby day spoils. Now it’s earned him the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month award for November.

The ‘Scottish Cafu’ said: “It was one of those ‘once in a lifetime’ goals. When you add that to the occasion, it was a very special moment for me personally.

“I’ve never scored a goal like it and I’ll probably never score another like it ever again!”

Hutton picked up 71 per cent of the public vote to beat Swansea’s Barry McKay and Nottingham Forest’s Joe Lolley.

In League One, Doncaster midfielder Ali Crawford claimed the prize for his 20-yard stunner against AFC Wimbledon. “Thank you to the fans for voting my goal as the best in the month for Sky Bet League One, it is a real honour,” said the 27-year-old.

Crawford, with 45 per cent, held off Walsall’s Josh Ginnelly and Peterborough’s Marcus Maddison.

In League Two, Carlisle skipper Danny Grainger took the spoils for his injury-time winner against Newport, lashing home a finely judged angled effort.

The 32-yearold left-back said: “Winning goal of the month is massive for me and it’s been quite nerve-wracking waiting for the results to come through.” Grainger, with 45 per cent, beat Cambridge’s George Maris and Colchester’s Sammie Szmodics.
