CHARLTON have pulled of a transfer coup by signing Wales international Jonny Williams from Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a six-month contract at The Valley, becoming manager Lee Bowyer’s first signing of the Janu-ary window. Williams came through the ranks at Palace and has had loan spells at Ips-wich, Nottingham Forest, MK Dons and Sunderland.

Bowyer said: “He’s a very good player. He’s good in possession, he’s clever, he works hard and he’s everything that I want from a midfield player.”

Williams is keen to play his part in Charlton’s promotion push.

“They are a good, talented bunch of players,” he said. “I’m hopeful to add to that and I’m excited to work with them and hopefully get the club back into the Championship,”

Williams made his debut as a substitute in yesterday’s 1-1 home draw against Sunderland.
