AGNEW: BRUCE RELISHES OWLS CHANCE

- By Benjamin Thomas

STEVE Bruce believes Sheffield Wednesday is a club which matches his ambition, according to interim boss Steve Agnew.

Bruce is due to start work at Hillsborough officially on February 1, with his delay in taking up the post down to personal reasons, with his coaching associates Agnew and Stephen Clemence looking after first-team affairs until then.

“Steve is absolutely delighted because he feels the club matches his ambition,” Agnew said.

“I’ve worked with Steve for a while and he is determined and will do everything he can to bring success to Sheffield Wednesday.”

Bruce has been handed the reins by Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri after the dismissal of Dutch coach Jos Luhukay on December 21.

They have been unbeaten in their four Championship matches since then, winning against Preston and Middlesbrough and drawing with West Brom and Birmingham.

Agnew added: “In time the supporters will see a very attractive team to watch. We want to improve in all aspects of play, but we certainly want to have a team that the supporters are proud of and enjoy watching.

“Everything has been positive. There has been momentum built over the Christmas period and we have to make sure that continues. We’ve walked into a squad full of confidence with a lot of talent. Everyone is in a confident mood.”
