SWANSEA KEEN TO KEEP FER AT THE LIBERTY

- By Graham Smith

SWANSEA City are in talks to extend skipper Leroy Fer’s stay at the Liberty Stadium.

The 29-year-old midfielder joined the Swans from QPR in 2016 and has made 96 appearances for the Championship club, scoring 10 goals.

Capped 11 times by Holland, he is out of contract at the end of the season.

Asked if Swansea had held talks over Fer’s future, manager Graham Potter said: “Yes, we have.

“They’ll remain private, but the club have been speaking with him.

“The quality that he has, we haven’t got too many here with his type of qualities.

“His technical level is really good and he offers a goal threat. It’s always about a mix of age and experience.”

Meanwhile, Nathan Dyer is delighted to be back in the first-team picture and determined to hold on to a starting spot.

The 31-year-old winger, who scored his first goal since February 2018 in the Swans’ comfortable FA Cup victory at Aston Villa, feels like he is getting back to his best.

“It’s been a long time since I have played, so it has been hard to be on the sidelines and I have kept working hard and training hard,” said Dyer.

“To score was the cherry on the top. You are back in and playing but to score is a great feeling.

“I have had to work hard to get my fitness back and that explosive power to continue throughout the whole game. I am slowly getting that back and feeling much better.”
