Grant will keep up hot streak says Lowe

- By Peter Jones

RYAN LOWE hailed star striker Joel Grant after his third goal in three put Plymouth on course to extend their unbeaten run to four.

Midfielder Antoni Sarcevic smashed in a unstoppable stoppage time goal to double the lead, but it was Grant who had his manager purring.

“Joel’s been fantastic for us. He knows what we want and that’s goals.

“And when you get goals I always want more,” said Lowe.

“I want him to shoot more, but he’s worked his socks off an got in some great positions and that’s what we want from him.”

He added: “It’s always hard work when you want to get three points and it was no different today. You have got to work hard in this league and you can’t underestimate anyone.

“We knew it was going to take a little while to get that second goal. But overall I am pleased.

“We were on it and on the front foot.”

Grant scored in his third goal in three games when he slid in to send George Cooper’s pinpoint cross spinning over United keeper Adam Collin and in to the net after 22 minutes.

After that, Argyle dominated the first half without adding to the scoreline.

Carlisle improved in the second half.

Soon after the break, the Blues had their best opportunity to score when towering central defender Byron Webster rose head and shoulders above the home defence to head Jack Bridge’s corner on to the face of the bar, with Palmer beaten.

Jack Iredale had a late opportunity to level for the Cumbrians, but his angled shot on the run was saved by home keeper Alex Palmer and soon after that Argyle countered to clinch victory.

Plymouth Argyle as Ryan Lowe’s Greens beat Carlisle United 2-0 in League Two.

Sarcevic drove to the edge of the box and let fly with a thumping strike. Carlisle boss Steven Pressley said: “From 18-yard box to 18-yard box we were excellent today.

“What let us down was our final pass, our final moment when we created opportunities and also one moment in the first half when we didn’t defend a bread and butter moment.

“That aside, the players were at it, they were aggressive in a lot of our play against a very good team ... once we keep improving the results will come.”
