CARLOS: SANOGO MAKES US MORE FLEXIBLE

- By Ben Pound

HUDDERSFIELD boss Carlos Corberan is confident new signing Yaya Sanogo can bring an extra attacking dimension to the club.

The 28-year-old former Arsenal striker joined the Terriers for the rest of the season this week.

Corberan said: “Yaya is a player who has a background in English football, something that can make his adaptation to the Championship easier.

“Physically he has a different profile to the strikers we already have and it can help to increase our versatility.

“He has been training with a professional team in France from September until he made the journey to England, which means he should be in a better physical condition.

“He will still need a little time and we will work with him to make him ready in the last part of the season.”

Sanogo spent four years with Arsenal – making 19 outings and scoring once – after Arsene Wenger signed him from Auxerre in 2013, and he had loan spells at Crystal Palace, Ajax and Charlton before moving on to Toulouse in 2017.

Sanogo left the French Ligue 1 side at the end of last season and was due to join up with his new teammates, pending a negative Covid-19 test.

Huddersfield head of football operations Leigh Bromby said: “We were looking for a player who can have a real impact for us this season and he fits the bill.”

CARETAKER boss Rob Kelly believes “resilience and character” will keep Barrow in the League.

Kelly began his second stint in temporary charge this term with a perfect outcome as his side claimed a last-gasp 1-0 win at Oldham.

He stepped up after Michael Jolley’s sacking, and said: “We have to look forward now.

“I’ve spoken to the lads, and when you’re in a relegation dogfight you need to show bags of resilience and character. I thought we showed exactly that.

“Staying up is all that matters for us now. We’ve only got one agenda, and that’s it now.”

HARVEY White has a maturity that belies his youth, according to Portsmouth’s assistant boss Joe Gallen.

The 19-year-old Spurs loanee scored a superb header to earn Pompey a 1-0 win at Oxford in midweek, and Gallen has been impressed by the midfielder.

“Harvey looks young, but he plays like a much more experienced footballer,” said Gallen.

AFC WIMBLEDON boss Mark Robinson hopes Jack Rudoni’s goal against Gillingham is a sign of things to come.

The 19-year-old midfielder scored a stunning late strike – his second goal in three games – to secure victory, and new boss Robinson said: “I’m so chuffed for Jack.

“He feels he should have five or six and he’s missed a few simpler ones, but then he’s done that. He’s technically fantastic and he’s always been capable of that.”
