Team mates

- John Akinde

Best mate?

I wouldn’t say I’ve got a best mate, though I’ve got a few close friends that I’ve made at Gillingham. My best mate is someone that I played with growing up, Andy Pugh (now at Chatham Town). We played alongside each other for Kent when we represented our county as teenagers. We were about 14 or 15.

Last to buy dinner?

Ryan Jackson. He’s just a tight guy. There are a few tight ones in the team and I’d say he’s right up there. When we’re allowed out again, he’ll probably just pay for himself and then get off. I have called him out on his tightness!

Worst dressed?

I’m going for Alex MacDonald. His gear is just really baggy, he looks like something out of the 90s. His wardrobe really needs a refresh - I’ve tried to help him out a few times.

Dressing room DJ?

That’s Jacko. He puts on R&B, hip-hop, house and dance and he mixes it up, to be fair. He tries to cater to all, which I’m not too happy about. I like the R&B and hip-hop and some of the garage stuff that gets put on, that’s for me.

Always late for training?

Do you know what?

There’s no-one that really comes in late, everyone’s pretty good with coming in on time, to be fair. I can’t think of a time where someone has been really late. Tommy O’Connor is one at Gillingham who’s never late but he always just about gets in with about a minute to spare.

Teacher’s pet?

There’s only one person for that, that’s Stuart O’Keefe, our vice-captain. He just agrees with anything the gaffer (Steve Evans) says, basically. If the gaffer says something, he always gets right behind it and agrees. I think he just does it to get in the team!

First on the dancefloor?

There’s no-one in the current squad that stands out but if I was going to have to pick somebody – although, obviously, we haven’t been able to for ages – it would be Jacob Mellis (who’s now at Southend). He’d probably step in there quickly.

From the little that I’ve seen, his moves were alright.

Most likely to disgrace themselves at the Christmas party?

I think that would be Stuart O’Keefe. We couldn’t have one last year but I could just see him having a few too many, he looks like the type. I can imagine he’d be the first to get a bit unsteady after a few drinks. That’s just what I picture from him - he might prove me wrong, though.

Best at FIFA?

I think it’s Jordan Graham or Jack Tucker. I think they play Call of Duty a lot of the time

as well.

Worst tattoo?

I’m going to say our new goalkeeper, Sacha Bastien, from France. He’s got one of some playing cards and he’s not the best at cards when I’ve played him, so I don’t really get it ....

Best future manager?

Alex MacDonald. I think he’s just well-rounded and when it comes to tactics or how he’d deal with certain situations, I just like everything that he says. I think he could make for a very good manager.
