GRIMSBY TWO ARE SET FOR THE EXIT

- By Chris Dunlavy

SHAMED Grimsby duo Stefan Payne and Filipe Morais look to have played their last game for the Mariners.

The pair clashed during last week’s 1-0 defeat to Bradford at Valley Parade, with Payne shown a straight red card for aiming a headbutt at his team-mate.

Speaking post-match, angry Mariners boss Paul Hurst slammed both players.

“Stef might be the one that’s done it, but the pair of them have let the club down, and everyone connected to us,” he said. “Quite frankly, it’s embarrassing.”

Now Hurst - whose side are bottom of League Two and facing relegation from the EFL - says neither man will play again this season.

“Stef and Fil are both still contracted to the football club, but neither of them will be making an appearance for us,” said the former Shrewsbury and Ipswich manager.

Pushed on whether their Grimsby careers were over, Hurst added: “I’ve made my decision on that.

“It was an incident that we didn’t want to have to be talking about, and it didn’t reflect well on the football club.”
