MARCUS’ HEALTH IS TOP PRIORITY – EVATT

- By Ben Pound

MARCUS Maddison returned to Charlton this week after Bolton announced they had reached an agreement to end the winger’s loan spell because of ‘well-being’ concerns.

The 27-year-old made ten appearances, six of them as a substitute, after moving to the University of Bolton Stadium in January on what was supposed to be a loan deal until the end of the season.

But Bolton manager Ian Evatt revealed Maddison has struggled living away from his family in a hotel, so the playmaker heads back to his parent club with the blessing of Wanderers.

“We would like to thank Marcus for his contribution during his time with us and he leaves with our full support,” Evatt said.

“The consequences of the pandemic have brought many challenges to so many people, and Marcus, in particular, has found it exceptionally difficult being away from his young daughter and alone in his hotel room.

“First and foremost, our priority is the wellbeing of all our staff and players, and Marcus’s best interests are paramount.”

Bolton chair Sharon Brittan added: “Having spent some time with Marcus, it became clear that he was in need of some additional support.

“Marcus is a lovely man and we will ensure that he gets the correct support he needs.”
