ROOKIE ROBBO: WE HAVE TO KEEP IT GOING

- LEAGUE ONE By Jon Couch

LEVEL-HEADED Mark Robinson refused to get carried away with AFC Wimbledon’s survival hopes despite steering the Dons to back-to-back wins for the first time in 18 months.

Robinson’s men followed up last Saturday’s thumping 5-1 win at Accrington Stanley with an impressive 3-0 success over stuttering playoff chasers Ipswich at Plough Lane on Tuesday.

It helped take them two points above the drop zone ahead of yesterday’s crunch clash with Swindon, but Robinson was quick to warn nothing has been achieved yet.

Will Nightingale and Jack Rudoni both headed home for the Dons inside four first-half minutes before Ipswich’s Josh Harrop was shown a straight red card for a scything challenge on Nesta Guinness-Walker.

Ryan Longman capped a memorable night for his side with a third goal late on but, although full of praise for his Dons young guns, Robinson knows there is plenty of work to do if Plough Lane is to host League One football in front of their returning fans next season.

“Just winning again was so important, but we have to do it again and again,” he told The FLP. “With the last two wins we didn’t go in front and look nervous or try to protect what we had. The best way to protect is to stay on the front foot.

“We are longing to build that attachment with the fans. There are lots of things the players are doing off the pitch, they are volunteering off their own backs for the Dons Local Action Group. We are dying for the fans to be in.

“Hopefully, the fans saw things they were excited by and can identify with, but fundamentally it is two games and six points. We have to be relentless and ready to go again.”
