CHARMAN RELISHES HIS DALE CHANCE

- LEAGUE TWO By Charlie Bennett

LUKE Charman said he always wanted to return and challenge himself in the EFL after completing his move to Rochdale.

The in-form striker has made the step up from Non-League Darlington after scoring 12 times in 16 National League North games this season.

Charman, 24, has put pen-to-paper on a twoand-a-half-year deal at the Crown Oil Arena, providing a major boost to Dale boss Robbie Stockdale’s attacking options.

Following the completion of the deal, the former Newcastle forward said: “I’m excited and looking forward to getting going.

“It’s been just over a week I’ve had in my mind that I was going to be leaving (Darlington), and as soon as I came here, I was raring to go. Back in the Football League is where I want to play.

“Meeting up with Robbie (Stockdale) and talking about what a good dressing room we’ve got, the style of play, it was an easy decision in the end. A lot of things fitted in, and it was a really good option for me.

“He said I’m coming in to play a role, but he also wants me to play my game.

“I feel like I’ve done pretty well in the first half of the season at Darlington, but it was the time for me to take that step up and try to challenge myself again, and get back into the league, which is where I wanted to be.”

Rochdale also signed versatile 26-year-old Max Clark, who can operate in defence or midfield, on a deal until the end of the season after the former Hull and Vitesse player left Fleetwood by mutual consent.

“I want to come here to be a part of the team and be successful together,” said Clark. “I want to win games, and that’s what you’ll see in my mentality. I love winning.”
