MOVING ON TO A NEW STAGE...

-

HE MAY have drawn the curtain on his playing career, but Matt Bloomfield hopes to continue having a big impact at Wycombe Wanderers – and hasn’t ruled out being manager one day. “I’m going to miss the changing room, being in with the boys every day, the camaraderie, that feeling at five to three when you are going out with your team-mates shoulder to shoulder to battle,” he said.

“I really miss the training in terms of trying to be better every day and trying to drag every last bit of potential out of my body and out of my career.

“I miss that drive of having to be the best I can possibly be every day. That’s how I’ve lived since I left school and I do miss that, but, at the same time, it’s about transferring that drive into being the best coach I can possibly be and trying to create a future for myself at this club and create a better future for my wife and my girls.

“I’ve really enjoyed working alongside the gaffer (Gareth Ainsworth) and Dobbo (Richard Dobson, assistant) and trying to have an input. I’m here until the end of the season on my contract already and I know the club hope, and I hope, that that will continue further. “I hope I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. Wycombe has become my club.”

As for being the Chairboys boss one day, Bloomfield is coy. “I would love to continue my journey at this football club, that’s for sure,” he added. “I love coaching, I love trying to be a leader, as a captain I loved having the responsibility of being a leader out on the pitch. “Never say never. I would love to be a manager one day and I’m really hopeful that opportunity may present itself at some point, but, first and foremost, I’m here as a coach to help the gaffer and Dobbo.”
