HARRY TIPS SCALES FOR PAL NECO...

- By Alex Fletcher

FULHAM’S on-loan defender Neco Williams spoke to his former Liverpool teammate Harry Wilson before agreeing to move to Craven Cottage.

The 20-year-old linked up with his Wales international team-mate to work under Marco Silva and help the Whites return to the top flight.

Williams said: “Speaking to Harry, he was saying how much he enjoys it here.

“He was just saying it’s a fantastic club.

“We’ve been speaking quite a bit. Harry was telling me the plans they have and I was just excited and when the interest came in I didn’t really have a second thought, I wanted to come.”

Williams revealed his conversion to fullback from forward did not blunt his desire to get up the pitch.

He said: “When I was younger, growing up through Liverpool’s academy, I have always played as an attacker.

“But then probably from under-18s, I changed to right-back so I’d say I’m more of an attacking rightback just because over the years I’ve always played as a winger, so I’ve got that attacking sense.”

Williams added: “I do like to defend because I’m a right-back, that obviously comes to mind, but, overall, I’d say I’m an attacking full-back who likes to get up the pitch.

“When you come on loan you need to see how the team play and what the manager’s plans are.

“The gaffer has attacking full-backs, which is perfect for me. The style of football suits me to a tee.”

Despite having to leave the Reds, Williams hopes to gain more than just football knowledge during his loan spell.

He said: “First time on loan, it’s going to be a great experience. All the stuff that comes with it with living in a new city. I’ve always lived near and around Liverpool, but it’s going to be great.”
