DONS ‘NEED TO FIND THE KILLER EDGE’

- By Ian Winrow

MARK Robinson was disappointed at his side’s set-piece vulnerability in their defeat at Charlton Athletic.

The Dons had a dream start when Ethan Chislett put them ahead after three minutes, with Ayoub Assal getting a vital touch after Addicks keeper Craig MacGillivray dropped the ball.

Ryan Inniss met Albie Morgan’s corner to head the hosts back on level terms, and then Conor Washington raced on to Diallang Jaiyesimi’s excellent through ball to beat Nik Tzanev just past the half-hour mark.

Ben Heneghan dived to head home Anthony Hartigan’s freekick five minutes later, before Famewo clinched the points with the first goal of his career.

Wimbledon are without a win in 11 matches - with ten of those in the league.

Head coach Robinson said: “We’ve obviously got done at two set-pieces, which is a strength of ours. We’re disappointed about that as it’s not something that happens very often.

“In the 12 games up until today we’ve lost three, won two, but drawn seven, which is the issue. We’re a competitive side but we need to find that edge that helps us turn a point into three. But we’re confident we can do it.

“Once we get it right, we are more than capable of going on three or four wins on the spin.

“We don’t enjoy being in front. While we’re one up, we need to find a way to stay the hunter and not get hunted. That could be the youthfulness in the squad. We have to turn that 1-0 into 2-0.”

After Chislett’s early goal, which came from ten yards after MacGillivray dropped the ball coming off the line to try and claim Will Nightingale’s header, Charlton took just 15 minutes to go level.

Innis made a near post run to head home Morgan’s corner, with Dons midfielder Hartigan appearing to get the final touch on the line.

Washington put the hosts in front after 31 minutes, with a superb pass by substitute Jaiyesimi sending him through on goal to confidently finish.

The Dons responded five minutes later through Heneghan’s diving header.

But, having looked vulnerable from corners all afternoon, they went behind again after 60 minutes – this time for good – as Famewo headed home Morgan’s corner as Charlton made it ten points from a possible 12.

Addicks boss Johnnie Jackson, who branded his side’s third win in a row as “pleasing”, said: “The game was a little too open and end-to-end for my liking at times, but we won not being at our best, which is pleasing. “I was really confident our results would turn and we’d work our way out of it.

“I had full trust in the players.”
