JONES HELD KEY TO MOVE – SNODGRASS

- CHAMPIONSHIP By Tom Blackett

VASTLY experienced midfielder Robert Snodgrass has revealed it was the Nathan Jones factor that made him sign for Luton Town.

The 34-year-old left West Brom during the January transfer window and has now arrived at Kenilworth Road as a free agent.

The Scottish international will add valuable experience to the Hatters in the run-in as they seek a place in the Championship play-offs.

“The defining factor was the manager – it was all down to Nathan Jones,” Snodgrass told the club website ahead of yesterday’s game against Derby. “He went above and beyond to try and get me in through the door, which is always nice and especially at this stage of my career.

“It’s well-documented that I’ve not played in the last two months, so for him to show how much he wanted me in and be part of what he is building here, that was the crucial factor for me.

“He sat me down and he clearly knows his stuff on you, and in the end he’s bringing you towards a group of lads who are doing really well, through hard work and determination, and that’s exactly what I’ve done throughout my career.

“I’ve spoken to a few of the lads and I know they are really happy and delighted with the way the season’s turned, where they’ve kicked on and into the top half of the table to be just outside the play-off spots, with a couple of games in hand on some teams in there.

“We are out to try and win them and get ourselves into those play-off spots, then stay there.”

Jones believes Snodgrass can play a vital role.

He said: “He’s got play-off experience, he’s got Premier League experience and he is known to a number of our players and staff, so we know he’s the type of character that we want in here.”
