ASBAGHI: BELIEF IS GROWING AMONG OUR SIDE
A MINI revival has given Barnsley boss Poya Asbaghi hope that the Tykes can escape the clutches of relegation this season.
Recent victories over QPR and Hull, the former ending a 13-game winless run in the Championship, have breathed life back into the club’s season, and although they were still nine points adrift of safety before yesterday’s clash with Middlesbrough, the 36-year-old is at least now a little more hopeful that Barnsley can avoid a return to League One.
“It’s about finding a level of consistency in performances that we have had recently,” said the former IFK Gothenburg manager.
“We have to repeat what we are doing. The more games with those kind of performances, that’s going to increase our chance of staying up.
“We feel we can win games and when you see after a game that you not only played well but also collected three points, confidence grows.
“We want to win as many as possible. Maybe we will not be able to win every game, but it’s about finding a consistency.
“Even if we get a bump in the road here and there, hopefully over time, we have shown consistency in winning games and get enough points that we need.”
Meanwhile, Barnsley have allowed young midfielder Joe Ackroyd to join Czech side MFK Vyskov on loan.
Ackroyd, 19, has only appeared once for the club, in their FA Cup third-round win over Barrow last month, but has impressed for the Under-23s this season.
He will stay with the Czech second-tier side until June and admits it will be a chance for him to show what he can do.
“With a positive attitude, I’m going to make the most out of this experience,” he said.
