TRAVIS PENS NEW DEAL – AND AIMS FOR PREM...

- CHAMPIONSHIP By Tom Blackett

BLACKBURN Rovers have received a boost with the news that influential midfielder Lewis Travis has committed his long-term future to the club.

The 24-year-old has signed a four-and-a-halfyear deal, keeping him at Ewood Park until June 2026.

Travis joined Rovers from Liverpool midway through his scholarship, before signing his first professional contract with the club in 2015. He is now closing in on 150 appearances in Rovers colours.

“It means the world to stay with the club that gave me my chance in the game,” the combative midfielder told RoversTV.

“This club means everything to me, I owe a lot to Rovers and the fact that the club wanted to keep me for another four years was an opportunity that I wanted to take.

“We’ve got a young team, a really good gaffer, we’re in a good position in the league and the aim is to kick on from here. There was no reason for me to not want to stay here.

“I’m an established player in the team now and the aim is to show what we can do and end the season as strongly as possible.

“I’d be massively disappointed if this club doesn’t make it to the Premier League over the next four years.

“I hope I can play a massive part in getting us there and that’s the aim.”

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has expressed his delight that Travis is staying for the long haul.

“Trav’s a player who can epitomise this team and this club,” said Mowbray.

“He’s got fight, desire, hard work, commitment and is growing as a footballer. He’s travelling better with the ball, he’s punching the ball through the lines more than he’s ever done before, he’s delivering balls into the box now.

“He could probably shoot more and has to add goals to his game, but he’s a lad who has a growth mentality, he wants to get better and play in the Premier League with us.

“There are better footballers out there than Lewis Travis but I’m not sure there are better warriors out there than Lewis Travis.”
