OBAFEMI KEEN TO REACH ‘DOUBLE FIGURES’

- CHAMPIONSHIP By Steve Parker

SWANSEA City’s Michael Obafemi has set himself a target of reaching ten goals before the end of the season.

The striker, 21, joined the Swans from Southampton last summer for an undisclosed fee.

After scoring twice in the midweek 3-2 win over Peterborough to take his total to seven, Obafemi said: “It’s good to add to the tally, I feel I am warming up, that’s how my friends would describe it.

“I am just glad to be scoring goals and contributing, but I don’t want to just stop and think this is it, I want to keep going and get a few more.

“My job is to score goals, that’s what strikers are paid for. I’ve got my targets in my mind of what I want to do.

“I think double figures has to be the first aim, I hope I can get there quickly and keep going from there.”

Head coach Russell Martin heaped praise on Obafemi following his display against Posh and feels Swansea could be doing better had he found his feet sooner.

“Michael has really paid attention to what we want from him, he is really contributing,” said Martin. “He has got himself into great condition.

“He looks really sharp and clinical, which is just great for us. It has taken him a bit of time, if we had this Michael a little earlier maybe things would look a little bit different.

“But the important thing is we are seeing it now, we are seeing him play at a level we have always known he is capable of and he has always known he is capable of.

“He feels part of something here, and the fans have been great with him. They make these guys feel so welcome and such a big part of the club.”
