R’S STAR ALBERT IS BACKING BOROUGH

- By Tom Blackett

QPR winger Albert Adomah has taken a trip down memory lane ahead of NonLeague Day next weekend by visiting Harrow Borough and he says he’d love to manage his old club one day!

With an international break next weekend, supporters are being encouraged to visit their local Non-League sides instead.

Southern League Premier South side Harrow Borough are at home to Merthyr Town next Saturday (2pm). Adomah, 34, is keen for fans to visit his former NonLeague side.

In an interview with the club, he recalled some of his favourite memories of his time at Boro.

Adomah was a painter and decorator when he played under David Howell. After two seasons, he was spotted by Barnet and he has gone on to have a fruitful career with Bristol City, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and boyhood club QPR as well as earn 19 caps for Ghana.

He said: “When I first came for trials with Harrow Borough, it was with the reserve team. I didn’t get noticed but didn’t give up and a few weeks later Chris (a friend of Howell) called him and asked him to give me a chance.

“I came down to train with the youth team and the rest is history. If it wasn’t for Chris making the call, then who knows what would have happened.

“At the time, I was doing a painting and decorating apprenticeship at Acton College and a very good boss of mine helped me by allowing me to have days off or to finish early to come to training.”

Adomah wants to surpass the two Premier League appearances he made for Middlesbrough with the Hoops.

“Once I’ve played more than three games in the Premier League, my dreams will be completed and I can come back to Non-League with Harrow Borough – and I fancy the manager’s job!” he laughed.

Tickets are halfprice for Premier League and EFL season ticket holders (£6 adults and £3 concessions) next Saturday, as well as those going to England v Switzerland at Wembley later in the day, while it’s free for Under-16s. Free entry will also be given to NHS and Emergency Service workers and

the Armed Forces.
