ROVERS LIFE IS FULL OF PASSION FOR JAN

- CHAMPIONSHIP By William Parker

JAN Paul van Hecke admits he has “learned a lot of things” during his loan spell at Blackburn.

The 21-year-old Brighton defender has impressed at Ewood Park this season.

Van Hecke said: “Passion is a big reason why I play football, I want to win and play well every game. I’ve heard people mention the passion I have quite a lot.

“A few years ago, if I suffered a loss, I’d still be thinking about that in the next game.

“I’ve learned that you need to have a clear mind in that next match and that’s something I’ve improved on.

“I’ve learned a lot of things since being at Rovers, especially when it comes to the different sides of football.

“I’ve felt the physicality, the intensity, the high tempo, the crowds, everything in football.

“Everywhere you go in England, everyone loves football and that’s something I really like about this country as well.”

Meanwhile, full-back Harry Pickering says his aim is to keep improving as he approaches the end of his first season in the Championship.

The 23-year-old, who joined Rovers from Crewe last year, has starred in the second tier and has set his sights on getting even better.

He said: “Every game is a real challenge, every opponent is different and I’m enjoying being involved in it. I hope that can continue long-term.

“There’s a lot more eyes on you in the Championship, there’s a focus on the league with so many big sides in the division.

“I keep learning every day and we go through what I’m doing right, what I’m doing wrong and how I can improve.

“That’s been a really big help for me this season and the aim is to keep getting better.”
