Appleton’s relief after Jackson is KO’d again

- By Andy Hunter

MICHAEL Appleton was delighted to report that Adam Jackson was recovering well after a nasty clash of heads.

The defender had to be carried from the field after just 29 minutes after colliding with goalscorer Daniel Udoh.

Jackson had also been carried off following a collision in the reverse fixture at the LNER Stadium.

“From a precautionary point of view, we have to get him off the pitch because of what has happened previously,” said boss Appleton. “At half-time he was ticking all the boxes from a medical point of view.

“I don’t know the exact state of [the concussion] protocol but the lads will monitor him over the weekend and we’ll see what he’s like during the week.

“The ball almost sort of stopped dead on him. He looked comfortable, he looked favourite all day long and, to be fair, you look back and the goalscorer never really attempted to win the ball. It looked a bit naughty on the replay.”

Udoh went on to snatch the points with a dramatic 84th-minute winner to make it three consecutive wins for Shrewsbury.

The Shrews attacker reacted quickly to a loose ball on the edge of the box and rifled a shot home an impressive 15th goal of the season.

Jordan Wright made the first save of the afternoon after 39 minutes, tipping Josh Vela’s powerful strike from the edge of the box over the bar.

The Imps went close in first-half stoppage time as

Ted Bishop’s curling 25-yard drive sailed narrowly wide.

On the hour mark, Wright kept Lincoln in the match with a good stop to deny Matthew Pennington, but the hosts found their way through in the end.

Shrews boss Steve Cotterill hailed Udoh, saying: “He’s a wonderful boy. He’ll get all the plaudits because he’s the one who scored the goal in the game, but there were lots of other lads and he’ll be the first to recognise the other boys.

“It would have been easy at halftime to have taken Dan off.

“I thought we could have taken five or six of our lads off, because we needed to be a little bit sharper. Sometimes that happens.

“Why that has happened today, I have no idea!”
