Bluebirds blown off course by the Robins

- By Christopher Lane

BARROW boss Pete Wild has warned his players there is still plenty of hard work ahead after seeing them stumble to defeat against Swindon.

Favourites for a place in the League Two play-offs, the Bluebirds were blown away as the Robins picked up a deserved win.

“We looked nervy,” admitted Wild, not the result he wanted on his 100th game in charge.

“We looked like a team trying to get over the line. We didn’t play with any quality.

“It would be easy for me to start criticising players but that’s not me. We are in it for the good days and in it for the bad days.

“I said to the players, it is a ten-and-ahalf-month season. You have been unbelievable, so please don’t think you have cracked it and got over the line.

“There is so much hard work to do in the next two-and-ahalf weeks. We need to just get over the line and get what we deserve.”

Paul Glatzel continued his fine recent goal-scoring form and Williams Kokolo fired in his first for the club as Town secured the 2-0 win.

Glatzel has now scored six since moving to the County Ground in January and his latest effort just before the break was his fourth in as many games.

Kokolo’s curled left foot shot into the top corner had already given the visitors a 35th-minute lead – his first goal for more than two years.

Barrow went unbeaten in March and a 14-point haul pushed them into the play-off places.

Cole Stockton had a goal disallowed for offside, while Stockton and Dom Telford had chances cleared off the line and

Emile Acquah hit the crossbar with a header as they pushed for valuable points.

But Swindon’s win – only the fourth in 14 games for interim boss Gavin Gunning – was deserved.

“People might have thought we would come here and be a soft touch and expect us to get walloped,” said Gunning. “The realism is we played some good stuff and manipulated the ball well.

“We came to a team who are probably guaranteed to be in the play-offs and we were the better.

“We hustled and bustled them all game and they didn’t have answers.”

Barrow sit fifth in League Two, with five games still to play including trips to Gillingham, Crawley and Doncaster.

They host Bradford on Tuesday and then face promotion-rivals Mansfield at home on the final day of the season.
