FARREND FUMES AS SHRIMPS ARE CUT ADRIFT...
MORECAMBE skipper Farrend Rawson has hit out at owner Jason Whittingham after a threepoint deduction torpedoed the Shrimps’ League Two play-off hopes.
At a disciplinary hearing due to late wage payments in August, the EFL ordered Whittingham to deposit an amount equal to 125 per cent of the club’s monthly wage bill to cover any future delays.
In a statement, the EFL said that Whittingham had failed to keep the account at the required levels and that a suspended three-point penalty would now be activated.
The sanction dropped Morecambe to eight points off the play-offs with just three games to play, effectively ending their season.
Rawson branded the situation a “shambles” and urged Whittingham who along with co-owner Colin Goldring resigned from the board and put the club up for sale in
September 2022 - to find a buyer.
“I’ve been at this club for going on two years and I don’t think we’ve been through a six-month period without something coming up,” said the 27-year-old defender.
“All I can say from my behalf and the lads and the staff is that we’re disappointed, frustrated and annoyed. We’ve put our bodies on the line to try and do something special this season and people upstairs have taken it away from us.
“It shouldn’t be like this. It shouldn’t happen.”
A statement from the Shrimps added: “The board remains focused on the priority of ensuring that Morecambe Football Club meets all its obligations, which means working with (the owners) to prevent cashflow issues and doing everything within its powers to expedite the process of finding new ownership as quickly as possible.”
