GUTTED MATT SO PROUD OF LADS
WYCOMBE boss Matt Bloomfield, below, expressed his pride in his players after their heartbreaking last-gasp defeat to Peterborough. Having fought back to equalise late on through sub Dale Taylor, the Chairboys were left shell-shocked by Harrison Burrows’ even later winner for Posh.
“I’m proud of the way they’ve performed, I’m just really disappointed for them they didn’t have a win to celebrate in the end,” he told BBC Three Counties Radio about his players’ efforts. “The manner of the winning goal is really tough to take after equalising with an unbelievable strike from Dale. I really felt we could go on and win, but there was no time in between the goals. It happened all so quickly, and obviously we feel bitterly disappointed.
“I thought it was a very tactical game. We knew they were a good team who play in a certain way and we’ve studied that this week, and I thought, on the flip side of that, tactically we were excellent.
“We had some real good moments in the first half that on another day we might have made more of, but the longer the game goes on, the cagier it gets and the nearer the full-time whistle, the lads know what’s at stake.”
On a day of ultimate disappointment, at least Northern Ireland international Taylor had the satisfaction of scoring a memorable goal at the home of football.
“To score off my first touch was incredible,” the 20-year-old Nottingham Forest loanee told WanderersTV.
“It’s every boy’s dream to score at Wembley so I’m really happy to have done that. Coming off the bench to score was massive.
“The ball fell out the sky for me and everything was in slow motion, but I just caught it perfectly on my weaker side and it was an incredible feeling for me and my family to see it go in the bottom corner.
“Seeing all the fans erupt was incredible. They backed us all the way so full credit to them.”
