Ca s t l e Douglas Civic Week has been branded a “huge success”by organisers.

A week of fun and games culminated in a day of celebration for Douglas Day on Saturday.

The best in parade prize was won by Boots and their Wizard of Oz themed float.

The procession was followed by an action packed day of entertainment in Lochside Park which culminated in a fireworks display over Carlingwark Loch.

A spokeswoman said: “This year’s Civic Week was a huge success and the committee would like to thank all who sponsored events, made donations or gave gift vouchers and raffle prizes for the week. We would also like to thank all the volunteers who came along to the events to help out.

“The support and enthusiasm of everyone involved was amazing and each event was well attended.

“We are particularly grateful for the large turnout of entrants for the parade. We hope everyone had a great week and look forward to seeing everyone again next year.”

Their enthusiasm for the event was echoed by members of the public.

Paula Muir said on the organisers Facebook page: “Well done to the civic committee. What a fabulous week and yesterday’s turn out was brilliant, the park was buzzing and the fireworks were awesome!”

Moira Miskimming added: “Had a great day again on Douglas Day thanks for all your hard work. Even the weather held up.”
