Crash tragedy closes A75

A driver died in a car smash on the A75 yes­ter­day.

The man was killed when the Re­nault Scenic he was driv­ing crashed at the Glen­terry junc­tion on the Gate­house by­pass just be­fore noon.

The A75 was closed for sev­eral hours so in­ves­ti­ga­tions could be car­ried out into the one-ve­hi­cle in­ci­dent.

A lengthy di­ver­sion was put in place.

A po­lice spokesman said: “We are ap­peal­ing for wit­nesses. In par­tic­u­lar, we’d like to hear from any­one who had a dash cam­era run­ning at the time.”

In a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent, a 51year-old biker from Den­mark suf­fered a bro­ken leg and wrist af­ter a col­li­sion with a trac­tor on the C5, near Crock­et­ford, on Tues­day evening.

The rider was taken to Dumfries In­fir­mary, while the trac­tor driver es­caped in­jury.

Any­one with in­for­ma­tion is asked to call po­lice on 101.
