Town se­cures heart ma­chine

Com­mu­nity ef­fort and back­ing from project

Dalbeattie now has a de­fib­ril­la­tor thanks to the Peo­ple’s Project and a real com­mu­nity ef­fort.

Fiona Bland­ford, from the Bridge Well­ness Cen­tre in Dalbeattie, came up with the idea and af­ter re­ceiv­ing a cheque for £1,000 from the Peo­ple’s Project and do­na­tions from in­di­vid­u­als and or­gan­i­sa­tions in the town, the de­fib­ril­la­tor is now in place.

The Peo­ple’s Project’s Bustin’ a Gut chal­lenge has been rais­ing money for worth­while causes and the Dalbeattie project was just one of four they have been able to help.

Do­na­tions also came from Dalbeattie Bowl­ing Club, Dalbeattie Lions Club, Ste­wartry Care, the Friends of Ste­wartry Care and Myra Robert­son among oth­ers.

Fiona said: “The do­na­tion from the Peo­ple’s Project was won­der­ful but it was also a real com­mu­nity ef­fort. Ev­ery­one’s been so gen­er­ous.

“It’s one of those items that you have but hope you won’t need. It’s nice to know it’s there, though, just in case.”
