More big names sign up for Tour
Castle Douglas has secured a whole host of Olympic medals.
Last week, the News revealed that five-time goal medallist Bradley Wiggins will race into the town as part of the Tour of Britain on Sunday, September 4.
And this week it has been confirmed that he’ll be joined by fellow Rio gold medallist Owain Doull.
They’ll be riding alongside silver medallist Mark Cavendish of Team Dimension Data.
The Manxman is the most successful sprinter in Tour de France history with 30 stage wins.
He could battle it out with his big rival, German Andre Greipel, for the opening stage win on King Street.
He has also won 10 stages of the Tour of Britain including two into Dumfries in 2011 and 2012.
Race director Mick Bennett said: “We are delighted to be welcoming two of our Olympic champions to the Tour of Britain just three weeks after their success in Rio.
“As a former winner of the Tour of Britain, it is always a pleasure to welcome Sir Bradley Wiggins back to Britain’s biggest race while Owain Doull was the star of the 2015 Tour.
“In Mark Cavendish and Andre Greipel we have two of the world’s top sprinters who are both already multiple Tour of Britain stage winners.”
