Kirkcudbright Primary has become the area’s first dementia-friendly school.
Pupils in P6 and P7 received visits and took part in workshops run by Jill Rennie, from Alzheimer Scotland.
The five key messages they took from the workshops were:
Dementia is not a natural part of ageing;
Dementia is caused by brain diseases;
Dementia is not just about losing your memory; It is possible to live well with dementia; There is more to the person than the dementia.
The children had to come up with their own ideas for ways in which they could support people with dementia. They were all awarded a certificate and given a Dementia Friend Scotland badge, above.
